Where: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

When: Septebmer 26 – October 10

What: The fifth iteration of this growing film fest in the City of Cheeseheads brings back dedicated music documentary category Sound Vision, which the organizers describe with this nifty blurb:

Tom Waits said it best: “I always thought songs are movies for the ears and films are like songs for the eyes.” We couldn’t agree more, which is why we pulled all our music documentaries together in one place this year. Your eyes and ears will be equally happy.

It isn’t just cheddar and Tom Waits quotes, though. The programmers have lined up eight titles comprising several recent festival faves, including Bayou Maharajah: The Tragic Genius of James Booker (read an interview with directory Lily Keber here), Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me, and Muscle Shoals (read an interview with director Greg “Freddy” Camalier here); jazz history lesson The Girls in the Band (read an inteview with director Judy Chaikin here); and two music films from Jonathan Demme, the titanic Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense and his latest documentary, Enzo Avitabile Music Life, a profile of the Italian multi-instrumentalist.
